Aliaga's house

Aliaga house. After the founding of Lima on January 18th, 1535, Captain Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez received a colonial house in the elegant area near the house of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish Conqueror, (today the Government Palace). Ever since then the Aliaga family and their descendants have lived in the house, thus making it the oldest dwelling in the Americas that has been home to the same family for 17 generations.

Convent of the Descalzos

Enter  the Convent of the Barefoot Friars, located at the end of a once elegant avenue in Rimac at the foot of San Cristobal, the Convento de Los Descalzos, the Convent of the Barefoot Friars, was founded in 1595 as a place of spiritual retreat surrounded by fields and vineyards. Even though today it's right in the middle of sprawling and hectic Lima, the Convent still is a tranquil and relaxing refuge. Since the 1980s the convent houses an impressive museum displaying three centuries of religious art.

The oldest Colonial Mansion in Lima.

The first Jeronimo de Aliaga left the port of Sanlucar de Barrameda in Cadiz at the age of sixteen, bound for Panama. From there he traveled with stores and munitions to Peru, as a member of the force commanded by Conquistador Pizarro. He took part in the foundation of Lima on the 18th of January 1535 and in the creation of San Marcos University, the oldest in the Americas.

The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo

The Church and Convent of Saint Dominic, date 16th century. It is the Lima oldest convent, with its wonderful pink tower, the viewer tower of the City. In this church, there are rests of famous saints, like Santa Rosa de Lima, Juan Masias and San Martin de Porres. The Moorish heritage from Spain is manifested and the cloister enclosing a pleasant freshness thanks to large plants is decorated with tiles and stone arcades. An attractive mural made of tiles represents Saint Dominic life.

The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo

The church is famous in Lima for being the only one with a "real" steeple, which in consequence of the construction over several stages has a very peculiar style. Inside the church are the oldest choir stalls of Lima, the famous statue of the Virgen del Rosario and the silver urns that contain the relicts of Santa Rosa (the patron saint of Lima) and San Martín de Porres.
